Like what you're hearing? Then buy the DJ a cup of coffee!
Enjoy responsibly. Enjoy loud.
THAT'S GREAT, BUT WHERE DO I SEND MY DEMO?
Anywhere you like really, but if you want us to play it, then let us know by email to demos@radiobiscuit.ca with a link or file of a digital copy we can use, and we'll see if we can fit it in. No guarantees though, we can't play everything.
HANG ON A MOMENT, THERE'S NO ADVERTISING, OR NEWS, OR WEATHER, OR TRAFFIC?
Yep, that's right. NO ADVERTISING. And no news, weather or other stuff to take you away from the music. We concentrate on the music at Radiobiscuit. There are loads of places on the internet where you can get your news these days, and an immediate weather report is available just outside your window. Unless it's dark, when you might need a flashlight.
Also, we don't intend on being a local station that concentrates on just one country, area or city. We'd like to be as international as we can be. We may be based in North America, but we don't want borders to define what we play.
SO, IF YOU'RE NOT TAKING ADVERTISING, HOW DO YOU PAY FOR THE OPERATION?
That's where you come in. WE NEED YOU! Not just to listen and find us all the new music we need to keep you fed, but to help us run the station buy keeping the presenters filled with coffee and salty or sugary snacks.
DONATE WHAT YOU CAN, give what you think we're worth, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, what you think the music's worth. Pay us a dollar today, ten bucks for the year, even ten bucks a month if you like, we'll keep playing what you like. Just show us the appreciation for the work we do and the happiness the artists bring you.
We pay the appropriate license fees and we buy the music that we play. Every dollar counts towards what we can give back to the artists and the quality of our programs.
WHERE DID THIS "RADIOBISCUIT" THING COME FROM?
Radiobiscuit is the culmination of a lifelong yearning by one man to hear more new music that's different to the pop, rock, rap and other main-stream genres that the major labels service their industry with.
We're not knocking it, there's a huge demand for the main-stream music that we hear every day on commercial radio stations. The industry continues to pour money into promising artists that they think will be the next big thing, and we still support that. There wouldn't be an industry without it.
It's just that there's not enough hours in the day to play the rest of the great music that's out there. These are the artists that have been passed over by the majors because they simply don't have room in their repertoire for them, those that don't quite fit into a popular genre that plays well on the radio, or simply those that just haven't been heard of yet.
You probably know some of them. They're the bands, singers, song writers and musicians that play in the clubs, pubs, bars, and local festivals that have been working hard for years hoping to be discovered, and all the while entertaining us with great tunes. We want to provide an outlet for these unheard artists, a place where they can have their tracks played, their demos listened to, and their names introduced to our audience. To you.
Our aim is to provide seven day, twenty four hour, ADVERTISING FREE musical entertainment that isn't tied by genre, popularity or main-stream suitability. We'll play new music that you may have never heard before, older music that wasn't in the main-stream playlists and the live and demo versions that you wouldn't ever normally hear on the radio.
Yes. Again. You read it right, NO ADVERTISING. So we need your support to keep this station on air. PLEASE PAY US WHAT YOU CAN, AND WHAT YOU THINK THE MUSIC'S WORTH. Help us develop this station to be the best place for new music. Oh, and tell your friends. And band mates. And the local pub.
WHY "RADIOBISCUIT", WHY NOT "RADIOSOMETHINGCOOLBUTNOTBISCUIT"?
That's an easy one, but a bit long-winded. Let's tell you a story.
It was the 90s, and comedy TV sketch shows in the UK were very popular.
One show in particular had a sketch character played by Mark WIlliams (Father Brown, Harry Potter, Stardust, Shakespeare In Love). In the skit, the character returns from a trip to the grocery store, and answers his long-suffering wife's question:
"did you get the eggs, the butter and the potatoes?"
with
"Even better than that! I've got some biscuits shaped like radios, a map of Cairo and an ice pick".
And the Radiobiscuit was born. Or is that a Biscuitradio? You can see the clip HERE
(Thank you Mark Williams. And Charlie Higson, Paul Whitehouse, Simon Day, Arabella Weir, John Thomson, Caroline Aherne and all the cast and crew that made "The Fast Show" what it was. It's all your fault.)
CAN I HAVE A BISCUIT?
No.
Oh, okay, maybe.
If you're good.
